1. Self-reflection Report
In the workshop, I have recognized some leadership characteristics in myself, including enthusiasm, commitment and empathy. Additionally, I believe, that a good leader does not need to be an expert in all areas, however, he should know and understand what other people tell him, in order to make the right decisions. This is also a characteristic that I recognize in myself.
I can see myself as a leader in a way, but the workshop showed me that an important characteristic of a leader is being able to inspire other people to join you. This is a characteristic I lack in particular and would like to develop. Other characteristic I would like to improve are being more self-confident, motivating and convincing.
The type of leadership style I would probably follow is similar to Barrack Obama’s Leadership style, social, open-minded and authentic. However, I would lack his charisma and ability to inspire other people so well. In particular being more charismatic cannot be easily developed. I learned in the workshop that it is possible to improve it to some degree through training, nevertheless, it will always have more impact if one is born with it. For me, successfully improving it a little bit will probably take years. However, I would still like to train this characteristic.
I believe that Steve Jobs is a good leader. He has a clear vision, is ambitious, creative and strives for excellence. For me, these are also necessary characteristics that I would like to develop in order to become a good leader.
Whether I am able to develop those skills or not, I do not know. In order to be a good leader, I will need to learn from practical experience and mistakes. Thus, I believe that time is an important factor.
I believe that few people are born as natural leaders and see intuitively what no one else does. Most type of leaders grow into their role through training and education. They develop into great leaders by being guided, instructed, and informed. Personally, I know that I will become a manager and that I will apply many skills that I have learned and developed in order to become a good manager.
