Leadership

To lead someone is defined as going before or with to show the way. The two key words in the definition are: before and show. An individual must go before everyone and show them what is supposed to be done. You can not sit on the sideline and watch, because that will get you and/or your organization absolutely nowhere. To be a leader you must be willing to stand up and show confidence in who you are and what you do. I believe that I have the ability to lead this band and its members in a direction that will take this band to new heights. Being a leader, to me, has four main points: respect, ability, passion, and responsibility.

We all have that one person that we look up to because of that one thing they did, and it is different for everyone. I look up to my father more than anyone in this world. He is a man that no matter what happens he always seems to be calm about things. He can always cheer me up and I feel that no matter what I can talk to him about anything. I believe that I can be a wonderful leader in this band because people seem to respect me as a person and without respect you don’t have anything.

The ability to lead. If you were to ask me why I am qualified to lead this band; the answer would be simple… I have the ability to lead this band. I have played on the Magnolia Varsity soccer team since my freshman year, and have also started all three years. Although that past few years I have not be a “captain” I have stood out on the team as a leader. There have been points in the game where if it were not for my leadership on the field, along with many others, the team as a whole would have suffered. Along with my leadership on the soccer field I also believe that I have been a leader in this band. My 10th grade year, as well as, my 11th grade year I was and technically still am a section leader. I believe I have done a superb job leading the people of this band in a positive direction. Besides leading the people of this band in a way that is purely benefitting this band I have also lead them on personal matters.

I have played the flute since I was in 6th grade and I remember the day that they came with the instruments to my school
