The fast paced life of Americans has resulted in mail order everything. Need car insurance? Buy it online. Don't have time to shop? Order what ever you want, and someone will bring it right to your door. These days you can get anything your heart desires through the mail, or on the internet, but do we really want to do something as important as voting for our president on line? There are many reasons why allowing voting through the mail and online is not a good idea.
By replacing traditional voting procedures with mail in and internet voting, the importance of the process would be lost. Voting for the person who will, for the next four years, decide what direction our country goes in, is a very important decision. This is not something that should be squeezed in between checking your email, and downloading your favorite song. Voting is something that you should take your time with and think about, and not rush through. By allowing people to vote this way, instead of on a certain day at a polling place, we will be telling people that it's not that important.
Also, e-mail ballots would be easily forgotten, or erased, and paper ballots easily lost. This would result in a lot of late votes by people waiting for replacement ballots, and a lot of people just not voting all together.
Another reason mail and internet voting is a bad idea is the possibility of fraud. There are too many ways that the voting process could be interrupted. People could steal ballots, or buy them. There are plenty of people out there who would be more than willing to sell their
vote, and it would be easy to do out of the eye of polling place officials. Also with today's
