What makes a Leader

Characteristics of leaders could be recognized as technical skills, cognitive skills and competency but a great leader is also requested to possess Emotional Intelligence .

On evaluating emotional intelligence we have come up with competency models that studies which personal qualities that drives out the most outstanding performance of a leader within his organization. Researchers have used models such as division's profitability in order to evaluate senior levels.

Components of Emotional Intelligence:

Self-Awareness is the ability to recognize and understand your moods, emotions and drives as well as their effect on others, Such leaders are honest in admitting their feelings therefore could make accurate plans within an acceptable time schedule of works. On the other hand will also be able to assess themselves and their capabilities without overconfidence or underestimation. They are open to admitting failure and build constructive self criticism and are distinguished by knowing when to ask for help by being realistic to their potential against what they are demanded to achieve. Unfortunately this characteristic is sometimes mistaken for cowardness.

Self-Regulation, ability to control or redirect disruptive impulses and moods and tendency to suspend emotional judgment before decision making and channel emotions in a useful manner thus are able to create a fair working environment, since no conflicts will arise thus production will increase accordingly but sometimes these leaders are judged by being cold and there is also an image that a successful leader has a bad and fiery temper which is mistaken for being a sign of strong personality that would be able to operate under stress and would be mistakenly considered for possessing a strong personality.

Motivation is the passion to work for reasons beyond money or status with persistence. Leaders with motivation are recognized for their constant need to achieve goals for the sake of the pride they take in attaining those goals and after that they are always looking forward for the next goal to achieve and to explore new means and approaches to arise with their organization's performance this will be coming from their dedication to their organization regardless of its position in the market. They are also known for trying to rise with their performance and keep score of their achievements such as profitability or market share in order to track their success over a certain period of time and evaluate their performance. Therefore a leader who embraces both self regulation and motivation is able to recognize his abilities and at the same time will not settle for easy goals but at the same time if confronted with failure they will be able to overcome it and not give in easily they will also be able to set new goals with optimism and this is induced to their team thus motivating them to find solutions and move on without constant guidance.

Empathy is the ability to understand the emotional status of other people and identifying their needs accordingly by this it becomes the most observed factor of emotional intelligence. By possessing empathy
