Nicolette Larson (tournament director was responsible for organizing the first tournament) telling husband Kevin about first meeting of the MU Tournament Committee.

MUSC brings recreational players to a higher level of competition, State Olympic Development Program &/or high school teams. 24 boys & girls affiliated with the Hampshire Soccer Association and Granite State Girls Soccer League. The club decided to sponsor a summer invitational soccer tournament to generate revenue. Tournaments generate between $50000 & $70000 for the host club.

MUSC needs revenue for refurbish and expand the number of soccer fields at Rock Rimmon Soccer Complex. Funds to augment the club’s scholarship program.

Nicolette started the meeting by making them introduce to each other. Said she was excited. Asked for ideas.

One member (he) stressed the importance of qualified referees.

Quickly contact the local colleges to see if they could use their fields.

30 minutes on how they should screen teams AND WHAT’S THE ENTRY FEE.

Argument if they should reward the teams in each age bracket. Many felt medals were cheap and other tournaments too expensive.

Seek local corporate sponsors to help fund tournament.

Proposal of sale of T-Shirts and sweatshirts.

Recruits an artist to develop a unique silk-screen design for the tournament.

Meeting adjourned half hour late with only half of the members remaining until the end.

Kevin thinks it’s a bigger project than the ones he handles.

With a developed WBS some of the problems that occurred in the first meeting could definitely be avoided.

 30 minutes of the first meeting was wasted because the team did not have a clear idea on how to screen the teams. If Nicolette would have developed the WBS after having met people who would have had an experience of holding such events themselves, the team would now have an initial idea on how to approach the problem.

 There was an argument on the entry fee, having a well-developed WBS would avoid this because the team could now easily reach a consensus.

 Meeting adjourned half hour late but only half of the members remained until the end because in the first meeting there was no clearly sketched plan. With a WBS, since the whole project would have already been broken down to individual activities it would be easier to attract the attention
