Case Study Analysis Paper 2

Introduction

This case analysis is about Carl Robbins, a campus recruiter who hired 15 new hires and had to train them. After Memorial Day, Carl Robbins couldn't complete the training for the new hires because of a scheduling conflict of the training room between him and his colleague.

Background

Carl Robbins had been working at ABC, Inc. for the only six months. His position is currently a new campus recruiter. For the first time since working at ABC, Inc., Carl has hired 15 new hires, even though he has been working for only six months. On the day of June 15 Carl has scheduled an orientation to be taken on this day in the orientation room. He wanted to get the orientation out the way so that the new hires can start work in July. On May 15, Carl's colleague Monica Carrolls had contacted him to see if he was prepared for doing the training. But sometime after the Memorial Day Holiday, Carl noticed that the new hires didn't complete their applications, and he also noticed that three copies of the manual were missing. None of the new hires were sent to be drug tested. After all this happened Carl noticed that Joe who works in the Tech-nology Services Area had reserved the orientation room for the entire month of June.

June happened to be the month that Carl had scheduled his orientation for his new hires.

Alternatives

For Carl Robbins, an alternative solution would be to tell the Operations Supervisor Monica Carrolls that before he takes on a huge task like hiring people; he wants to know his way around the company first. He wants to be more prepared for the tasks. Carl should have asked the new hires to come back to finish up their applications and to set a scheduled date for them to take the drug screen. Before he recruited the new hires, he should have asked for help with the orientation set-up so that he could have had the orientation training room reserved before the Memorial Day Holiday. Also if Carl did this before hand than he would have had the training room reserved for the June 15th date instead of a later time, such as July. Carl did not think of these alternatives at all. If he did than he would have scheduled the orientation in the training room at an earlier date.

Proposed Solution

Carl did not have a back-up plan in place in case if something went wrong with the scheduling of the June 15th orientation. Carl Robbins should have received more training about the job and more training on the worst case scenarios. Carl didn't realize
