Origins of Hip Hop

Hip Hop music began in the Bronx, in New York City influenced by African Americans and Latino Americans. The roots of Hip Hop came from African American and West African Music. In the year 1970 hip hop arose when block parties became common in New York and they would play funk and soul music but then the early DJs began isolating the percussion breaks to hit songs realizing that they were the most dance-able and entertaining parts and this technique became common in Jamaica and had spread via the substantial Jamaican immigrant community in New York City specially to the godfather of hip hop DJ Kool Herc. Due to the influence of American sailors and radio stations playing R&B Dub Music had arisen in Jamaica, large sound system were set up for poor Jamaicans who couldn't afford to buy records and dub developed at the sound systems. DJ Herc was one of the most popular DJs at that time and he quickly switched from reggae records to funk, rock and disco since in New York they didn't rally like reggae music and because the percussive breaks were generally short, DJ Herc and other DJs began extending them using an audio mixer and two records and with that they came up with the Mixing and scratching techniques and those techniques developed along with the breaks, this techniques contributed to the popularization of remixes. Then DJs and MCs would often add call and response chants, often comprising of a basic chorus, to allow performers to gather his thoughts. Later MCs grew more varied
