The University of Phoenix provides many tools to its students to ensure a productive and cohesive learning environment, whether attending online or on campus. As a university designed for working adults, University of Phoenix was deliberately set up with the schedules and lifestyles of working adults in mind. For that reason, University of Phoenix has many tools which are unique and help to aid students in not only being successful students, but also successful graduates. These invaluable tools include rEsource, learning teams, and the problem-based learning model.
The Value of rEsource
One of the most useful tools provided to students of the University of Phoenix is rEsource. This is an online tool which provides access to a multitude of University of Phoenix resources. Accessed through the student website, rEsource allows access to course maps for each scheduled course, University Library, the eBook collection, the Center for Writing Excellence and more. The course maps for each scheduled course provide a thorough outline of each course, including all reading assignments, quizzes, and written assignments. The University Library provides access to several online databases that store scholarly as well as business journals so that students can research articles for papers and presentations. The eBook collection contains books (mostly textbooks) in a digital format ЎV this means no buying books! This helps to cut down on out of pocket expenses for students. One of the more interesting rEsource tools is the Center for Writing Excellence. This tool allows for students to submit their written assignments to either a person or a computer program that will then edit for grammar and usage. This ensures that students continue to work toward becoming excellent and efficient written communicators. REsource is just one of the helpful tools provided to University of Phoenix students.
The Value of Learning Teams
Another valuable tool while taking classes at University of Phoenix is the inclusion of learning teams. Learning teams are groups of 3-5 students that work together cooperatively to complete tasks throughout each course and throughout the entirety of the program. The learning teams act not only as a group of learners, but as a resource for each student, a support team, and a vat of new and varied information. In my opinion, one of the largest reasons for inclusion of learning teams is the very fact that students learn better from one another. I found this to be true during my time as a middle school Math teacher. Sometimes, the students just needed to hear it in the words of another student, not in the manner I was explaining the material. Learning teams seem to be a fancy type of groups within the classroom. A large difference from groups in
