Personality Critique

The scientific study of personality as a focus within the larger field of psychology must begin with a definition of the term itself. The origin of the term lies in the Latin word, persona, generally understood as the mask that people wear in dealing with others as they play various roles in life. Although there are various definitions psychologists use for the term personality, a consensus definition involves recognition that we are concerned with studying a pattern of a number of human tendencies, including traits, dispositions, unconscious dynamics, learned coping strategies, habitual and spontaneous affective responses, goal-directedness, information-processing style, and genetic and biological factors that give some degree of consistency to human behavior. Very important in this approach to understanding personality are the notions of both a pattern of characteristics and the relatively consistent nature of their occurrence. Personality theory is not greatly concerned with a unique occurrence of a particular behavior, but rather the consistent pattern of behaviors, cognitions, and emotions and their overlapping and unique manifestations in individuals.

At this point in the development of a science of personality, there is no general agreement on all the factors, which contribute to and make up human personality. There is not even general agreement over which aspects to study or exactly how to study them. Nevertheless, the field of personality theory and research is exceedingly rich and varied. However, we must approach this richness by understanding the approaches of various theories and their particular focus.

Let me begin by giving out these questions. What makes a person what they are? Why does a person do what they do? Where does personality come from and how does it grow? These are some frequently asked questions when discussing the topic of personality. The latter of the questions is actually an answer in itself. Personality does originate from a specific point, and from then on, it continues to grow and become exponentially more complex.

Almost everyday we find ourselves describing and assessing the personalities of those around us. Whether we realize it or not, these daily deep thoughts on how and why people behave as they do are similar to what personality psychologists do. While our informal assessments of personality tend to focus more on individuals, personality psychologists instead use conceptions of personality that can apply to everyone. Personality research has led to the development of a number of theories that help explain how and why certain personality traits develop.

I am Glaiza O. Esperancillla and from time to time in my lives, I find myself asking the deeper philosophical questions of life with “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?”. These questions are indeed difficult to answer and as we travel in the walks of life, more memories are formed and more changes are made in our life. My life started on the 14th day of June 1986 when my mother Guadelyn gave birth to me at the Bethany hospital. I became the only rose among the thorns, and my two siblings were Mark and Jason. When I asked my parents where they got my name, they told me that they got it from the name of a famous child star during that time named Aiza Seguerra. In the first three years of my life, I relied on the memories and stories told to me by my parents, siblings and Manang. I started walking during my 1st year, and I was not a meticulous eater according to them. I As I watched along the pictures, I was happily interacting with my two brothers. One instance in my life that I could recall is when I experienced to urinate on my bed. I was always told by my mother not the do this act and as time passed by I was able to control myself and be disciplined in going to the bathroom if I feel like urinating. This as also a result of shame because my mother would always tell me that it is bad and people will laugh at me if they knew that I am urinating on my bed. I recalled at one point of my life as I looked upon the pictures I was exploring and holding objects and playing with it. As I examined the picture, I could see my parents smiling at me and they were teaching me to place the right shape on the toy. When I was about five years old, I was busy playing with my schoolmates and I can remember one time when my parents scolded me because I was so busy playing. Then they explained to me the importance of taking a rest and that it is not good to play all the time

I started to go to school when I was four and Manang would usually be the one to go with me to school. I studied at the St. Therese Child Development Center. Being a kid, I usually cry when Manang would be out of my sight. One of my precious possessions during this age was my bottle of milk. I always have this as part of my snack, and my mother told me stop when I was about to
