Procrastination…A Student Art Form
You’re a student, its 2:00 a.m. and you have a test at 9:00 a.m. You have known about the test for more than three weeks, yet you waited until the day of the test to finally start studying for it. Now its 8:45 a.m., you have been cramming for the test nonstop and you can barely keep your eyes open because you haven’t slept for more than twenty-four hours. You are one of many students who practices professional procrastination.
Students of all ages put off preparing for important assignments and tests until the last minute. Some of these students will successfully complete whatever task they have to do while others who have waited will just give up and forget about it. Why would they do this? Is it because they are so busy with work and their personal lives that they cannot set aside a little time everyday to take care of business, or is it because they just don’t feel like it?
When Senior Texas State Student Meredith Pursell was asked if she ever procrastinated when it comes to school work she said, “Yeah I do wait until the last minute most of the time, and it’s not because I don’t feel like doing the work when I’m supposed to, but because I feel like when I have more pressure on me to succeed at the last minute I’m more likely to come through successfully.”
Not every student can bask in their procrastinating success, when another Texas State Senior, Cole Parker, was asked if he ever waited until the last minute to take care of his studies he said, “I have definitely waited until the last minute to take care of my school work many times, and most of these many times I really did terrible on whatever it was I have to do.”
When Cole Parker's roommate, Austin Community College student Raul Torres, was asked the same question he said, "I never wait until the last minute, I feel better the sooner I finish my work so that it's not on my mind when I am doing things during my every day life." When he was asked if he had any friends who he knew were procrastinators he said, “I do have some friends who always wait until the
