Academy training is for people that want to become a police officer. This training specializes in certifying people as law enforcement officers. With police academies typically people are hired at a department and then sent to that department's police academy for training. The academy training can be anywhere from 320 to 800 course hour and it takes about 6 to 8 months to complete (howstuffworks.com).

Police academy training provides officers with the basic skills need to perform daily police function such as writing tickets (white, 2007).

Unlike academy training field officer training programs are created by police departments to train their new police officers either during their academy classroom or post classroom training. These programs help departments a better insight on the new officer's suitability for a police career (careerpoliceofficer.com).
