"Public lewdness is intentional exposure of body parts in public areas; however a person does not have to actually expose themselves in order to be charged with this misdemeanor if it's in a place where sexual activities have been previous problems."("Public Lewdness") To some the crime may be petty but the punishment alongside the humiliation is substantial. Fines, court counseling, registering as a sex offender, jail time, and probation are penalties of public lewdness. This varies depending on your states law on lewdness. First time offenders usually get a less severe punishment, yet the circumstances can change based upon location, testimony and witnesses.
Today in New York State the average fine for public lewdness is up to $500.00, average jail time is approximately 30-90 days, probation however depends on the situation; nevertheless these consequences are indeed flexible.

Last Wednesday Syracuse recruit Ashton Broyld was charged with a misdemeanor for public lewdness. This charge can either land him in jail for a year or fine him up to a thousand dollars. After Rush- Henrietta lost a sectional basket ball game causing their season to seize, Ashton cursed out the officials and then pulled down his pants and exposed himself to the whole arena.
Before this incident Ashton signed a letter stating that he intends to play foot ball for Syracuse University, the school released a statement saying, "We are aware of the situation
