Qr Code

Abstract

In this essay, I will explain about what are QR codes. Also I am going to evaluate QR codes and benefits of using them in teaching as a teaching material.

In today’s world, there is dramatic increase in using technology in different parts of human life. Generally, technology helps people to improve the life conditions. For instance, Quick Response code generation can take into account. QR codes are a special type of bar code that can carry a lot of diverse information and data and they can be read by using laptops, smartphones or other QR reading devices. QR code is the new generation of old zebra barcodes and nowadays they can be seen everywhere (Ramsden, 2008). However, in this assignment I will evaluate this application in teaching.

Firstly, QR codes decrease the time that is spent on long URLs or addresses in the class. Also, with this application, students can have a quick and direct access to the online materials which are used by teachers. Data such as videos, books address, exams and extra materials can stand on QR codes to using by student. On the other hand, students are not able to use these codes with out smartphones or other QR code reading devices.

Secondly, using QR codes are very easy. There are a lot of free applications for creating and reading QR codes and they can be used as a teaching tool. Therefore, data on the code can be edited and changed or replaced by another information quickly by the creator. Also, these codes can be printed on anything such as wood, paper, glass, walls and human skin as a tattoo (BBC ACTIVE, 2010). However, teachers have to spend time and energy on creating and organizing well to motivate students to using them.

Thirdly, QR codes can carry a lot of information which students should know about them. For example, campus maps, school’s Facebook or Twitter pages can take into account. Moreover, these codes can be used to promote events and important news such as, exams timetable, seminars or exams result (Law, 2010). But, one of the main negative issues for using QR codes is the security. If somebody has any kind of QR code reading devices, he or she can has access to the information easily. Thus, these codes are not secure and important Information must be encrypted by the creator.

Fourthly, QR codes help teachers to decrease the cost of buying paper and printing materials. Also, there is rapid increase in saving paper and students can scan a code to have information on a cellphone instead of carrying a paper. Furthermore, students can have the books on QR codes and have an access to the teaching materials limitless and teachers can help to decrease the cost of buying books by students as well. On the other hand, the cost of buying equipment such as tablets, or other QR codes reading devices will grow in schools where they prepare facilities for their students.

Fifthly, teachers can copy the assignment and homework in QR codes for students. Then, students can scan it and give back the complete work in form of their own QR code. Then, teachers can give them their feedback by these codes as well. Also, it forces students and teachers to be up to date and push them to use new technologies and look for another new applications. For example, when teacher engage students to use QR codes, they should download the QR code reader and the application to create it and
