The chart above represents the staffing schedule for Red, White, and Blue Fireworks Company. The schedule was based upon the following criteria: 40-hour workweek with three consecutive days off during the week, no overtime, a minimum of 20 employees per day, and a workweek from Monday to Sunday.
Explain the method used in developing your plan.
I used a version of the Tibrewala, Phillippe, and Brown 1972 technique, which makes it possible for a company to operated seven days a week and give each employee two consecutive days of rest (Reid & Sanders, p. 576). However, I substituted three consecutive days instead of the two day to create the chart according to Joan Bennett's specifications.
Knowing that there is a minimum requirement of 20 employees in the manufacturing process, I utilized that number as my daily target. Since, the days the employees would prefer off from work were unknown; I methodically assigned workdays and rest days to each employee. However, in order to accomplish this, Joan will need to increase the level of staff.
Explain how employees should be assigned to the different schedules.
