- The question that is being asked is does home visits provide a broad overview about the living conditions of the individual and family care and may be oriented in terms of the theory of cultural diversity and universality? Would HF patients be better managed at home?
- Yes, I do agree that HF patients would be better treated at home. I do agree that in home care the attention shifts from the focus on the recovery of the individual’s health, to the focus on the prevention of risk of the disease and promoting health. I think that a patient is more compliant in their own environment and comfortable and will respond better to treatment. I also think that teaching the patient at home prevention they will respond differently.
- Yes, the researchers did incorporate Leininger’s theory appropriately. Leininger said it was important to look at a patient as a whole person from a physiological, psychological, spiritual, and social perspective, it’s also important to take a patients culture and culture background into consideration when deciding how to care for the patient. The researchers touched on all those bases very well I thought.
- It is very easily understood, it breaks down the theory. Lerininger’s culture diversity and universality theory is a comprehensive theory that subsidizes the exercise of critical, reflexive care, bringing the individual universe closer to the professional universe. Nursing care based on the theory aims at planning actions with individuals enabling them to choose what best suits their reality.
- Yes the finding have significance to nursing practice. It gives nurses the opportunity to discover care practices that are specific to each individual and to the cultural factors that can influence human care, such as religion, environment and economic aspects. We as nurses need to be “bendable” we need to be able to accept and understand all cultural beliefs. We cannot give good effective care if we are not putting everything into perspective. Again, Leiningers theory we need to treat the whole person.
- No this does not matter that this study took place in Brazil. Here in the United States and many other areas have cultural issues and so on. When the nurse takes into account the beliefs and values of a patient and family it gains trust. With trust confidence is gained and nursing care can thrive. In the study it was stated that the nurse needs to understand the cultural dimensions within which the individual operates not only in there home, but also in a community setting. So no matter where, with this theory in mind care for the patient should remain brilliant.
