Should Special Rights Be Reserved for Homosexuals

As children we read in the Bible that there are certain things that are wrong in the eyes of many, including God. We are taught about the creation of both a man and a woman. We are told that “God created them in his image”. We are given a set of rules to live by so that when we leave this world for the next there will be a sacred place for us. It is in those rules for life that we are told that it is a sin to commit acts of sodomy. If this is the case then why do we have issues concerning gay and lesbian rights? It is a very difficult question to answer without first doing some research, then answering the question as honestly as possible without being biased. Do I believe that it is right for gay people to have special treatment and laws for a choice that they have made in their own lives? Do I believe in special treatment for someone that has taken it upon themselves to lead a life style that has been scorned forever? These are just a few of the questions that I hope to answer honestly and without prejudice.

Even with all the pressure and stress they must feel, is it right for them to get special treatment. Is it right for anyone to receive special treatment based on the age, race, sexual orientation or religion?

These are just a few of the issues that people in courts and justice halls all over the country are trying to answer on a daily basis. The lawmakers, both the senate and congress are being asked to approve special laws that would allow a gay or lesbian person different treatment than most. There have been numerous law suits filed that have involved same sex marriages, adoptions, violent behavior and more. Can the Government change the laws of their states to make life harder for people involved in same sex relationships?

When I first started the research for this paper I was under the impression that I knew what the issues were involving gay and lesbian couples in our country. I thought that this group of people was trying to get special rights and privileges based on the fact that they were involved in an alternative lifestyle. I did not realize how much of a struggle it is for them to live a normal and productive life without people from the outside trying to run their lives. At times it must be a struggle to do the things in life that a straight person may take for granted such as walking down the street holding hands and cuddling, moonlight walks in the park,
