The below SOP is not a part of Strathclyde Applicatio docs(its split into essay responses)
Success demands passion. I hail from a business family and learnt the importance of professional approach of managing business. This reasoning stimulated me to pursue MBA from a prestigious institution which equips me with successful and advanced managerial and business skills. My ambition and passion to become a successful entrepreneur in my area of interest - to be specific, consulting and real-estate industries - can be achieved by acquiring strong knowledge in general management along with leadership qualities. Although my immediate career plans include evolving from managing a group of technical people to managing business in consulting sectors in a senior management role, my long term goal is to establish and manage my own business.
I believe that my success lies in my vision, planning, focus and execution. To be a successful entrepreneur, I need valuable business insights for each of the above characteristics. Business education would provide me optimal tools to gain such insights.
I am a math student with an engineering background and from a family involved in the business of gas stations, rice mills and oil mills. The analytical skills and the quantitative abilities gained from my education and the business knowledge gained from my family laid a strong foundation for my managerial and business skills and make me more suitable for business education. Additionally, my leadership qualities have taken root at a young age at school in which I served as a school captain for 2 years. As a leader, I organized many inter-school fests, represented the school in state level symposiums and executed general leadership roles at the school. These skills have made me a good organizer at my engineering college, where I organized many inter-college fests and campus recruitment events.
After my graduation, apart from working as Software Engineer, I partly managed the business operations of LEORA Pharmaceuticals, Hyderabad and Balaji Garments, Hyderabad. I managed the Wholesale and Retail Distribution of Garments all over the state and the marketing activities of pharmaceuticals. My step into these companies has given me a basic understanding of the dynamic business structure and its execution, apart from managerial experience.
My career has provided me many learning opportunities. Although my present job involves technical aspects, it has instilled in me managerial skills such as analyzing issues, managing people, negotiating with clients, thinking innovatively, managing risk, organizing events and managing time. One of my substantial achievements in my career is the design and execution of an auditing process for Zurich Farmers Insurance involving the audit of millions of insurance policies. This project had huge risks in terms of inappropriate inputs, handling millions of policies with a time limitation to design and execute. I independently implemented the whole project. Apart from appreciations I received, the project has mainly taught me strategic planning, time and risk management. The results have boosted me and gave me opportunity to manage a team of 9 people and the project delivery. At times, I faced challenges in balancing my professional life and personal life for some reasons such as taking care of my two kids. Those challenges have developed my patience and time management skills.
