The strategic plan will focus on forecasts of the healthcare industry dating from 2008-2010 along with a historical depiction of the company’s operational environment reflecting from 2007 to present.
Company Background
The Baptist Minor Medical Centers are a division of Baptist Memorial Hospitals. The Minor Medical Centers serves as Urgent Care centers only. Baptist Memorial Healthcare opened with a 706-bed tertiary care hospital in 1979. The organization is one of the highest volume hospitals in Tennessee. I will focus on the Business Services Coordinator Department and its Service Fist Program of the Baptist Minor Medical Centers. The minor medical centers are known for providing urgent care along with occupational and preventive health care services.
The Southern Baptist Conventions of Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi founded Baptist Memorial Healthcare in Memphis Tennessee, in 1912. A group of visionaries opened the hospital in order to meet new and growing demands of the city. This dream and vision was realized in 1912 when the 150-bed facility at Baptist Memorial Hospital opened in downtown Memphis. Baptist was on the way to becoming one of the largest non=profit organizations in the healthcare industry. The organization has many affiliate locations including 15 hospitals, 7 home care facilities, 8 hospices, 4 minor medical centers, 16 clinics, and 7 behavioral health facilities. System-wide, the organization has more than 2,600 licensed beds with more than 1,300 located in the Memphis area. Since 1912, the organization has grown tremendously. In 1993, Baptist acquired a hospital in Columbus Mississippi known as Baptist Memorial Hospital, Golden Triangle. In 1997, the organization merged with Memphis St. Joseph Hospital. This expansion included a freestanding women’s hospital and a Baptist Heart Institute located on the Baptist East campus. Another expansion came in 2002. This expansion, known as the Baptist Desoto project, became one of the largest in history for the state of Mississippi.
Mission, Vision, Values
Currently, the Baptist Minor Medical Centers adheres to the Baptist Memorial Healthcare Mission, Vision, and Values statement. This mission, vision, and value statement reflects the views of the hospital rather than that of its facilities. With a few minor changes, the mission, vision, and value statement for the Minor Medical Centers would not only reflect the values of the employees for that facility but also the needs of consumers. Currently, the mission, vision, and values statement is as follows: “Mission- In keeping with three-fold ministry if Christ – preaching, teaching, and healing, Baptist Medical Healthcare Center is committed to providing quality health care. Vision- Baptist Medical Health Care Center will be the provider of choice for quality; patient-focused, healthcare in collaboration with the physicians and the communities we serve. Values- are to be friendly, compassionate, and responsive care reflecting respect for the individual and the value of diversity, trust and teamwork, and continuous improvement” (Baptist, 2004). The new mission, vision, and value statement would, as stated before, reflect the wants and needs of the employees and consumers of the Minor Medical Centers stating the following:
Vision
