SURIGAO YOUTH CENTER: A Second Home for Everybody
Surigao Youth Center (SYC) was established in the year2006.It was a project of the population Commission office headed y Jupiter J. Correos and under the City Government headed by Hon. Mayor Alonso S. Casurra, City of Surigao .It was founded for the reason that to help the youth of the City of Surigao.
Its Vision is to develop responsible young men and women of Surigao City with a sound well being spiritually, socially, physically and economically.
Teach them to be responsible not only to their family but also to be responsible to their community. Develop not only one aspect of youth’s personality but to develop the whole aspect of its personality.
To help the community, the SYC volunteers joined many activities to help in developing the community even in a little ways.
We’ve undergone coastal clean up in Barangay San Juan, Surigao City. We’ve panted Mangroves in Barangay Cagniog, Surigao City .We were trained to be an advocate of change, advocating the topics in puberty which is the physical and biological changes of adolescents, dating which is an appointment to meet somebody for a social activity or a romantic engagement with somebody, its advantages and disadvantages, the difference between friendship and crush, infatuation and true love and lastly the responsible sexuality which is the key to a healthy sex life and meaningful and fulfilling relationship. Responsible is simply respecting yourself. We’ve been to different islands and main lands barangays to advocate the said topic above, to lessen pre-marital sex and to wait for true love and no to drugs. We were also trained as a peer counselor, to counsel youth if they have problems. Youth nowadays don’t tell to their parents about what are their fear, worries and problems, instead they told it to their friends, so we are working for the youth who are in need of guidance, to give them the right choices what should do and what should to be done. But we are just assisting them to solve their problems, its their own choices what do they want to do. We are really eager to lessen whatever
