Road cannot be just be used to distribute and deliver its products as this would help to build up bottlenecks and therefore integrated transport infrastructure is needed where road, rail, inland waterways, coastal shipping, ports and airports all needed to be considered. This is needed to be done to help cut down 20% of greenhouse commissions which the government is intending to do. An aspect which has not received much attention in the past is the economic growth while reducing accidents, pollution, noise and congestion needs to be included within the operations to help meet the initiatives of the department of transport.
The scope of empty running and light running remains significant therefore it needs to be reduced. It cannot be totally eliminated but measures can be taken by using the full capacity of vehicles which can be used to deliver and considering return loads. This would comply with promoting the department of transport initiatives but also reducing costs for the company making operations more sustainable and reducing the number of noise pollution, congestion, health problem and accidents.
