Texas

Texas is called the Lone Star State. Texas became the 28th state of the United States in 1845. The flag is red, white, blue and the large white star was used in the 1830’s. It has had six different nations fly their flags over it; Spain, Mexico, France, Republic of Texas, Confederate states and the United States. Texas is the only state to enter the United States by treaty instead of territorial annexation.

The capital city of Texas is Austin. Austin is located in south-central Texas on the Colorado River. Austin averages 300 days of sunshine each year and about 33.78 inches of rainfall and it rarely snows in Austin.
