The Coal Mine Dilemma in China
Introduction It is very easy to find some accident news of the coal mining in China. It is really a special topic we should pay attention to. Because we do really need the resources in order to meet our daily needs. However, coal mining is an extremely dangerous jobs for the workers. According to the news in China, it said ‘an average of ten miners are killed in mining accidents each day.'(sources from http://www.publicintegrity.org/investigations/global_climate_change_lobby/articles/entry/1801/#fueling) On one hand, there are so many mining disasters with so many casualties. On the other hand, if the coal mines are closed down, it will affect the livelihoods and investments of many people too.A) Summary China had a huge mining disaster on August 7 this year in Xingning(Guangdong), and 123 mine workers lost their lives. It is a tragedy that did not end after the disaster. Several million people lost their opportunity to earn a living while private mine owners got to live off of their investments. The Guangdong provincial senior officials had a concern and focused on the coal miners business. August 10, the provincial government ceased coal mine operations until further investigations. If coal mines want to keep their business they must have three permits and one license. These coal mines received a "B" or better grade from the rating agencies in terms of safe production conditions, they obtained the "Safe Production Permit". Even though the coal mines received a "B" grade, the government still did not care. The Quingyaun authorities demolished the coal mines, and caused the shutting down of mines in a brutal way. The mine owners soon losed billions of yuan in economic losses which caused tremendous economic damage. Workers were upset with the Quingyaun authorities and wanted to keep working in the mines. The Police faught with the workers using tear gas and several workers were also arrested. The miners, created a defensive squad to prevent the government from blowing up the mines, they are protecting their property by threatening to cut off the Beijin-Guangzhou railway line. The Shaoguan government hesitated to make any action. Soon, 32 coal mine owners flew to Beijing to present their cases to the National central Government and State council officials. This did not work. The Shaoguan government announced the shutting down of mines. The coal mine owners sent a statements to the government saying that the economy will be nearly ruined for at least the next 10 years, while the government officials will still have their own jobs. This whole event has caused a stir between the miners and government officials, therefore an investigation team is being sent to the minning locations. The teams focus is on whether the constitutional protection of private property is guaranteed in practice.B) The violated ethical philosophy Ethical relativism is that in different individuals in different communities of moral values and moral perspectives are relative and all kinds of rather than absolute unity. Here "relative" is mainly manifested as different groups doing different individuals as well as all of their beliefs is based on the existence of the power has been different. Point of view in accordance with ethical relativism in this world there is no absolute right and wrong, nor is there an objective is non-standard. From the business ethical case, China is the world's fastest growing economies of countries in the last thirty years. Rapid economic development has brought many advantages, enhanced national strength, improve people's standard of living, this is an aspect of morality. However, from an environmental part, China's economic development accompanied by huge pollution, the problem of greenhouse gas has not been resolved, this is another aspect of morality. Both are relative, there is no definite right or wrong. China is the world's largest importer of tropical timber and the largest cement producer, with China's growth in demand for coal, a daily average of ten miners died in mining accidents. Therefore, according to ethical relativism, China's environmental problems is not its own issue, but also the issue of concern around the world.C) The actions necessary to correct the ethical problems. In order to improve this situation, there are two ways. First of all, the owner of the development company can make the coal industry becoming more mechanism. They can learn from the other countries, such as Dubai and Pakistan,
