The Danger of Procrastinating
Do you tend to put things off until the last minute? For instance, putting off a major project until the night before it is due or comforting yourself that there is a day tomorrow to do work around the house. These are the signs of procrastination. Procrastination is the act of pushing core things aside or by saying “I will do this later.” It has been said that “tomorrow” is the busiest day of people's lives. This is because many people wait until tomorrow what they should do today. Therefore, they never really address and perform these tasks.
Procrastination can influence our salvation. The Bible is full with examples of people who missed their opportunity by hesitating. Solomon wrote, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). In other words, don't leave work unfinished because tomorrow is not always promised. Another example is when a man wanted to follow Jesus but asked to bid farewell to those who were at his house. However, Jesus said “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” When looking at this Biblical quotation, a similar situation occurs today with us (youth). Especially those that have the call to preach the word of God and maybe procrastinating: “let me get this first or let me do that first,” before accepting to fully work for Christ.
Many young people are refusing to receive salvation today because they are procrastinating or delaying to repent in time, thinking they can take advantage and enjoy their life first, before coming fully to Christ. On the other hand, Satan is always very fast and may decide to trap such people to premature death, so they wouldn’t have the chance to repent or work for God.
