The Importance of Effective Leadership

Effective leadership is important because it is one key element in the success of an organization. Effective leaders build a sense of community within an organization. They not only try to increase employee retention figures but they also try to improve productivity because employees are more willing to follow effective leaders versus non effective ones. To be effective, leaders must possess leadership qualities and skills. (Agricultural and Rural Development, 2001) Leaders have the important tasks of implementing strategies that promote the growth of the organization. Without a leader present, there would not be any specific goal for the organization so there would be no growth progressing. Leaders help make employees more confident and train them in key areas for better results. Good leadership also makes employees feel secure about their jobs and very confident about their future in the company while increasing their productivity. Employees develop a sense of unity and passion for their work when effective leadership is in place. (S., Charlie 2010)

Effective Leadership Traits

Effective leadership traits are very essential for all those who wish to become successful leaders. The main traits that an effective leader must have are honesty, talent, confidence/enthusiasm, the ability to respect the opinions of others and decision taking abilities. Honesty is important because it is one of the most vital effective leadership traits that a successful leader can have. A leader should show honesty towards their organization and employees. If they are honest and dedicated to their work then they can make even the smallest organization a successful one. Talent is important because the ideal leader should be definitely talented and knowledgeable about running a successful organization. Confidence and enthusiasm are essential/effective leadership traits that make a great leader as well. A good leader should always be eager whether to learn new things or improve old ones. They should be able to boost the morale of their workforce. Also they should be full of energy so that they are able to work for long hours and achieve the set targets. Another effective leadership traits a leader must have is the important value of respecting the opinions of others. They should be able to make decisions but at the same time consult others around them. They should be open to any suggestions voiced through others opinions. Effective leaders should possess decision taking abilities. Because there are plenty of instances where some form of difficult decision has to be made. So they have to be able to overcome problems with peace of mind. (S., Charlie 2010)
