The Merchant of Death Book Report
The Merchant of Death (Pendragon Series)
For my book report, I read The Merchant of Death from the Pendragon Series. The author gave the book this title because of the character Saint Dane, and Saint Dane is basically a shapeshifting demon who’s trying to guide worlds towards utter destruction. He tricks and kills people without giving it a second thought.
The plot of this story revolves around Bobby Pendragon, the main character, Mark Diamond, his best friend, and Courtney Chetwynde, a girl he went to 1st base with, err I mean a girl he’s had a crush on for a while. The book is told through long letters where it switches from Bobby’s first person narrative to Mark and Courtney’s third person. The plot starts with Bobby learning that he has to become a time traveling warrior but has to leave everything he loves behind. He is mentored by the lead traveler, his uncle. He learns that he must lead the Milago miners escape the tyrannical rule of the Bedoowans.
A describe character would be Bobby’s lifelong best friend, Mark. Mark is basically a HUGE nerd. He is a member of the prestigious science club at his school and he eats carrots because he thinks it’ll help his eyesight. Mark was chosen to keep Bobby’s entire journal since he’s his best friend. He goes to Courtney Chetwynde because he’s scared of facing the weird fantasy that’s happened to him so far.
The end of the novel was pretty cool, so I would say I like the ending. It gave a lot of unanswered questions, but since the series has ten books, it’s obvious that the author couldn’t give everything away in the first book.
