The Mouse That Roared
The mouse that roared was originally a book written by Irish writer Leonard
Wibberley in 1955 about an imaginary country in Europe called the Duchy of
Grand Fenwick. The author uses the situation to mock the politics and world
situations at the time. Wibberley places his imaginary country in many ridiculous
situations, where it goes against several superpowers and wins.
The country Duchy of Grand Fenwick is tiny (3 miles by 5 miles) bordering
Switzerland and France in the Alps. Their country is based on a pre-industrial
economy which comes almost entirely on making Pinot Grand Fenwick wine.
In order for the country to change the dependency of their economy on their wine
they plan to go to war with the U.S. and lose in which case they would gain
foreign aid from the U.S. So they show up in New York city with army equipped
