The shocking news about Americans
In the article that I read it predicts that forty percent of Americans will develop type two diabetes. The researchers reported that the numbers are even higher for Hispanics and black people – fifty percent of them will develop type two diabetes. The article tells how a risk for getting diabetes for an average twenty-year-old woman had increased from twenty-seven percent in the 1980s to forty percent. The reason why so many people get diabetes is because they do not exercise and do not have a nutritious and healthy diet. People choose the most convenient places to eat – somewhere where it is cheap, fast, and delicious. The article suggests people to make changes in their lifestyles, have a healthier way of living. Some ways to do that would be to eat right, get enough hours of sleep every night, and exercise nearly every day.
The study author who predicted the shocking numbers was Edward Gregg, he is chief of the epidemiology and statistics branch in the division of diabetes translation at the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. When Edward Gregg did this research he said that “we weren’t necessarily surprised that it increased, but we didn’t expect is to increase this much”, it shows how even the researchers were surprised at such high number. Dr. Minisha Sood, an endocrinologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, said that the effects of the diabetes and obesity epidemic go “hand-in hand”.
