The ones Who Walked Away from Omelas"
In the story, “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omeals,” bye Ursela Le Guin, the Festival of Summer comes to the cito of Omelas, but that is not mainly what the story is about. The story is mainly about small child living deep uner a local store. He/she has been locked under the store for a very long time, living on nothing but ………… and sitting in its own feces. It has never been out in the real world and never will. The town has put the small child there and say they cannot
let it out now because the town myst be happy 24/7 and letting the child out fr even 30 minutes will be 30 minutes of tourture. Everyone in the town has seen the child at least once and sometimes more. Infact sometimes someone in the town will walk straight out of the frount gates and never return because the sight of the small child is so bad.
The boy/girl under the store is very similar to a book I have read many times intitled, A Child Called ‘It’, by Dave Peltzer. Both children in the stories had basically no chance for survival or a normal life. In the book, A Child Called ‘It’, the small boy is forced to live in a dork unfit place where he has never had one friend to his name, much like the person in the story I read, “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas.”
The story tells us that the towns people have seen this child so they will know how good and pleasant there lives are, but sometimes its too much to stand and people leave the town and never come back. Why doenst anyone
