Trade with China

Thousands of years ago China was a world power, but they were isolationist and feared western influence. The result of their isolation was a drastic decline in their power. Now China, under a communist government is more open to trade then ever. One of their biggest trading partners is the United States. Trading with China is an issue of concern for many Americans. Some Americans believe that the United States is investing too much money in China and need to stop trade. Others believe that the US needs to keep trading open. I believe that we need to continue trade with China but it needs to be done very carefully.

Currently the US is importing 20.5 billion dollars worth of products to China, while the US is exporting only 4.2 billion dollars worth of products to China. If this imbalance continues, the US will continue lose money and China will gain a lot of money. The US needs to continue trade with China, however, the US also needs to balance out the imports and exports.

Some characteristics of the Chinese government are Communist government of 24 years. The main political party is China is the Chinese Communist Party, also known as the CCP. There are eight minor parties, but they are all controlled by the CCP. They have elections every five years and about 93.8% of the people participate, although some experts believe this percentage is inflated.

The American government is a constitution based republic democracy. It since 1789and there are two main parties with several smaller political parties. In the US only about 15.2% participate in the election every two to four years.

China has an increasingly market oriented economy. China has a population of 1,306,313,134 people with a GDP of $8.158 trillion, leaving a per capita income of $6,200. China has a land area of 9,326,410 sq km. Some of China’s natural resources are lead, uranium, coal, iron, and China has the largest potential for hydropower.

The US has a free enterprise capitalistic economic system. It has a population of 295,734,134 with a GDP of $12.37 trillion, leaving a per capita income of $41,800. The US has a land are of 9,161,932
