Since Transportation has been an important topic not only for Expo but also for urban development. Actually, it is the blood of the Expo for the host country.
Background:
Big city, high volume of population.
If we look at the history of Shanghai, which is being in the process of its fastest development of urbanization and motorization and meet endless flow of population into cities, an unbelievably fast increase in the number of motor vehicles, and the weakness of the public traffic system, the issue of transportation is of greater urgency. With these constraints, the selection of a correct and rational traffic development mode for Expo is essential to keep urban development. Relevant authorities have designed and issued a series of strategies and policies to develop a sustainable urban traffic system for Expo. These measures and policies include giving priority to public traffic, building a comprehensive urban transport system , promoting the reform of urban public transportation industries, enhancing the construction of urban traffic infrastructures, and accelerating the implementation of traffic demand management, etc.
What is the requirement for Shanghai Expo?
World Expo 2010 Shanghai China, with the theme of "city", has a primary mission–improve urban traffic conditions and make people enjoy a better life in the city. The urban transport system in Shanghai is supposed to undertake a rapid increase of traffic volume during the Expo. So traffic system will become one of the important criteria to evaluate the Expo–a successful, wonderful and unforgettable international exhibition.
Why the transportation is so important for the Shanghai Expo?

With scientific and technological development, we are keeping finding more efficient, convenient and friendly vehicles, from carriages, automobiles, trains, to planes, metro systems which will help us overcome the daily traffic and challenge the speed limit.
Also Transport is an eternal theme in urban development especially for SH Expo. Let us imagine that if a metropolis like Shanghai always suffers from the problems of crowding and traffic jams due to its high density population during the Shanghai Expo, how big the damage will bring to Shanghai's Expo. This is why all the experts attached so much effort to this large project. Their opinion is that traffic system has its own rules which can be used to solve relevant problems by means of technology, management and engineering in order to meet the theme" build a better city life." An also Shanghai government has always attached much importance to urban traffic development and made great efforts to improve urban traffic conditions, including the quality of the public transport service, a higher level of traffic control and management, and a basic framework (horizontal and vertical) of modern transportation. All of these will lay a sound foundation for an integrated transportation system to support the Expo.
