Transportation in Watchmen
Transportation in Watchmen was more advanced compared to our world, where technology has surpassed the physics of gravity with the creation of the hovercrafts. In our world transportation is still slowly progressing with the automobile and airplanes.
In Watchmen there was something mysterious about the streets, there weren't any buses or subways operating when these commonly used public transportation was excluded, I assume buses and subways are too dangerous to operate because of the corrupted streets full of drug dealers and gangs. I assume that they are afraid of big masses of people coming together can result in a lot of cases where people are stealing from one another or cases of physical harassment or violence. Throughout chapters 1-10, there wouldn't be a single picture or sign of a bus operating. With buses and subways excluded from transportation, it was replaced with blimps. Seen on chapter 4 pg. 24 clearly there are several blimps flying around and there was many more in other pages. In watchmen technology was more advanced because there was the creation of the hovercrafts and hoverbikes by Nite Owl or also known as Dan Dreiberg.
In our world bus and subways/railroad transportation was very popular compared to watchmen. Bus transportation was commonly used in the 1980's because it wasn't expensive to use, so it was a money saving option. Also, Blimps weren't very popular in the real world. Blimps was replaced by airplanes, It seems that in Watchmen's ground transportation is more advanced compared to the 1980's but with air travel in watchmen is pretty standard, only with blimps unlike our world where we have surpassed blimps and moved onto to airplanes. In the 1980's a lot of people were into sport cars, people liked driving fast resulting in many car accidents. Compared to Watchmen there wasn't a single sport
