Santiago is and old men living in a village near the ocean. He's old, poor, and considered as a joke by the fellow fishermen. He is taken care of by a boy named Manolin, who helps and guides Santiago. In the novel "old man and the sea" Santiago shows courage by going after the marlin, even if he is made fun of and picked at.
