Voice over Internet Protocol is a new way to communicate over the internet with the similar quality of a LAN line phone. In researching this topic the team found several reasons to pursue the topic of obtaining a VOIP network such as,

VOIP technology is a fast growing business with vast improvements over traditional phone systems.

Small and medium size businesses can afford to switch to this technology due to the cost cutting features of VOIP.

VOIP technology allows companies to only have one network drop at each desk cutting down on expense and problems.

The availability of numerous resources on the internet concerning this topic convinced the team that there was sufficient information available to thoroughly research the paper and submit a quality product.

The first resource that our group discovered was located at http://www.fcc.gov/voip/. This site gave us a good description of what exactly Voice over Internet Protocol is and how it is used. Basically people are able to make telephone calls over the internet. VoIP allows users to communicate with people over the internet to other people that do not have internet connection. This web resource also describes different features and options of the VoIP.
