Walmart Video

Based on the class video that we watched in class on Wal-Mart Company and does Wal-Mart affect me. Even though I do shops there occasionally, but Wal-Mart has not effect me personally. However, Wal-Mart has affected many other people, like the small towns in America. It has destroyed communities, does not treat their employees well, and has been associated with the sweatshop issues in other countries, such as China.

Small towns used to be a nice place to live and to start small businesses, like groceries stores, and car repair stores just to name a few. Wal-Mart has completely changed that. Every time Wal-Mart moves into a town, they are able to afford to drop their prices so low that the used to be “mom’s and pop’s” shops were not able to compete with their prices. Because of Wal-Mart’s low prices, the small shops eventually have to close down their business shops for good.

Back in the days when there were still more family owns business in every corner, when we walk into the store, storeowners would greet their customers by name and sometimes even your kid’s name. However, in Wal-Mart today they will be just too many people to remember you personally.

Wal-Mart has also been known for not treating their employees’ right. They will not give their employees full time job, so that they could avoid giving their employees benefits and insurance. From my own personal experience, at my old job in a smaller company, I was treated the same way as how some of the Wal-Mart’s part time employees. The company refused to give me a full time job, so they could get away from giving me benefit and insurance. However where i used to work, there were only seven of us, and it was a small company. Wal-Mart on the other hand does it at a large scale. Wal-Mart has thousands of employees that are part times. Because Wal-Mart shuts down many small local businesses, the people around it have no choice but have to work for Wal-Mart.

It is amazing to know how other countries could allow corporations to come in their country and treat their people like their country too, I know I am talking about Wal-Mart, But I do have a strong opinion about the government for allowing this to take place. The way Wal-Mart treats the people over in China is criminal. Making people work
