What Do You Think About the Prohibition That the Tenure of office Act Made on the President?

2001

The House of Representatives made the Tenure of Office Act in March 1867. This Act was made in order to limit presidential power to remove officeholders and/or members of his cabinet without the consent of the Senate. The president Andrew Johnson wasn’t in favor of this Act because he saw it as unconstitutional because it limited his power to decide who were going to be the officeholders or his cabinet members as he would like to.

The prohibition that the Tenure of Office Act made on Andrew Johnson was in some way good. It was good not only because in this way he wouldn’t have absolute power. But also because in this way the people have the power to decide who they want in the Office and in the President’s Cabinet. And because absolute power meant chaos, the House of Representatives came with this idea in order to restrict the President to do what he pleased, but to do what the people want.

Although the Tenure of Office Act was good to prevent or limit some of the powers of the President, it has its negative side. This Act according to Andrew Johnson was unconstitutional because it prevented him from doing some decisions about the people who worked for him. In this way if a member of the President’s Cabinet or an officeholder wasn’t doing a good work in Office he wouldn’t have the right or power to fire him or her because of the restrictions this Act made on his power. Having this Act against the President isn’t good because he wouldn’t feel safe or secure about the power that he has, and anyone in the Senate would have the power to overpass the power of the President because his opinion or word wouldn’t be as powerful as the Senate’s.

This Act is in favor of the people and it respects the opinion of everyone in the United States and it is good this way
