Whats the Deal with the 19th Amendment
It is the year 2008 and there is still a major controversy between men and women in the work force. Women’s rights laws were passed almost one hundred year ago. There is a stereotype around women. That they should stay around a cook and clean. This is not a bad idea sometimes. This poses a question though, can a career couple last in a healthy marriage? My information is from two articles on each perspective. The first one is “Don’t Marry Career Women” by Michael Noer, and the second is “Don’t Marry a Lazy Man” by Elizabeth Corcoran. Both of these writers are coworkers of each other. Corcoran wrote her article in response to Noer’s.
Having kids is something most married couples do, especially today with the increasing population. Noer claims that a career woman is less likely to have kids, because they have too many other things going on that need to accomplish at work. He also states that when they do have kids they are unhappy about it, for roughly the same reasons the other half doesn’t have kids in the first place. Corcoran denies these claims, using herself as an example being that she is a successful career woman. She states that she has two young children that she adores extremely.
Divorce is one the most common things in this day and age. What is the point on getting married if there is a fifty percent change you most likely are going to get divorced. Noer says that if a partner works hard then the other it is demoralizing for the other person. This causes major tension in the relationship. I think we have all seen the movie Mrs. Doubtfire, so you can imagine it is something like that. Corcoran once again gathers on personal experience with her husband and says that she is motivated if her husband works harder then her, and it is vice versa. This motivation helps them work harder and bettering their career. They also have things in common which also adds to their relationship.
What is the secret to a marriage that is happy? The people that get divorced will probably want to know. Noer states that a marriage will be much more happy and easy going if the man is more successful then women. Most women like to be taken care of, and what better way then if their husband can provide things which they cant for themselves. Corcoran states that every long relationship has its ups and downs.
