Wwii Docs
- Genocide is the specific targeting and killing of one group. The Rape of Nanking was definitely a sign of genocide through the eyes of the world. However, the Japanese seems to view it more as a type of manslaughter, claiming that they did not target just one group.
- They most likely saw the circumstances of the people and knew that the targeted did not deserve the treatment they were getting. John Rabe saw the human in the Jews and used his power to save them to the best of his ability. John Rabe is a hero. A hero is one that is able to push aside anything they are working on and help another person in their time of need or under crucial circumstances.
- (Documents don’t exist within documents) Compared to other genocides such as the holocaust, the Rape of Nanking was a lot more brutal. The Rape of Nanking, although not on a grander scale as the holocaust, it was a lot more brutal. The Japanese outright killed some of the people while the Germans at least gave the Jews a chance to be transported. They also were not told if they were going to die whereas the victims of Nanking were murdered outright.
- Back in earlier world history, there were no accurate or viable records of genocides. So while a genocide did happen, to many people, the Holocaust and the Rape of Nanking were the first genocide they have ever heard of. Now in modern history, these events are being recorded in hopes that none of this ever happens ever again in World History. So while these events that happen tend to be more brutal, the punishment for these war crimes seem to be working to be working due to the fact that international crimes are happening tend to be in a smaller scale.
Atlantic Charter Doc
- Due to the fact that basically the Atlantic Charter stated that the United States and Great Britain will facilitate the peace in the world which would make them uncontested.
- Woodrow Wilson would agree with this due to the fact that it facilitates peace. At the time of his presidency, Wilson did not want have anything to do with conflict whatsoever, so a document on the facilitation of peace in the world would probably have put him at ease.
Japan’s Imperial Army and War Crimes
- Through the eyes of the Japanese, it is a just sentence. The American bombed innocents in the area. However to the US, it is a war crime due to the fact that they believed that they were doing the right thing in bombing Japan. So the opinions are very subjective due to clashing perspectives. They consider this compassionate due to the fact that it was a quick death. A war crime is when people are killing innocents that are not involved directly with a war. When it does happen, the superior officer in charge should be held responsible, not the goons that did the dirty work as they were under direct orders.
- It is. It seems like war crimes are a way to exert the victor’s dominance over the conquered. They basically can push the people around and make declarations on whatever they feel is necessary.
- The War in the Pacific seemed more like one sided domination in Japan’s part more than a war. When the US entered however, it did not become a race “war”, more of a war for democracy vs Japanese control. However when it was just Asians vs Asians, it was the colonies of Europe and China vs the Japanese domination.
- The torture methods seem very horrifying. The reason being that in America, torture is used to interrogate. However in these docs, torture was used just for the heck of it. People were forced to kill their fellow soldiers, while in America it would have been to give information or die.
