Yellow Tail Marine
Robyn Gilcrist suddenly assume leadership of Yellowtail Marine and must address problems in marketing, production, finance, employee relations, corporate moral, governmental relations, and her long-term cooperation with her superior. Each of these audiences requires a different message, sent through different media. At the same time, all of Gilcrist messages must be consistent, or she will not be successful in her role as manager. Gilcrist success at leading this company will depend on whether she tries to do everything at once and fails or does a few things right, and earns her leadership. Most importantly, she needs to establish a workable relationship with Boswell and her employees. She has the delicate task of convincing the employees she can lead without pretending she’s Gunnerson. Gilcrist needs to respond within the next day or two to every memo in her in box, but she must do so in the context of a strategic plan. By use of delegation, the tasks that need to be accomplished can be within range. One quality of a good manager is the knowledge of how to delegate and use employees to their maximum potential. Also, Gilcrist must prioritize the importance of each issue facing her at the time. This will not only help solve Ms. Gilcrist problems, but should infuse a feeling of respect among Yellowtail Marine employees.
