Executive summary
Purpose: The purpose of this report is to stress the importance of Employment Relations (ER) and to develop recommendations focusing on assisting HR managers to change their approach to the relationship with employees and improve the efficiency of the organization.
Research: The research seeks to analyse the literature review on the impact of ER to organizations. This part consists two small parts. In part A, the research will examine the importance of ER as a essential approach for management in today world of business. In part B, it will analyse the relationship between three core actors of ER as well as the relationship between employers and employees within an organization under the point of view of Human Resource Management (HRM).
Discussion: This part will look into the issues presented in the research to address and discuss the advantages and drawbacks.
Conclusion: The significance of ER can be seen in improving efficiency of a business, a massive gap between concept and practice and the crucial for HR managers to move away from hierarchical “top-down” approach to more equal relationship with their employees.
Recommendations: After analysing evidences from researches, this report proposes four recommendations:
- Improve the active and effective communication between employees and managers through out different layers of management.
- Create plans that include career pathways and succession planning as well as caring employee’s mental state and wellbeing.
- Build a leadership style by sharing the vision on how the company will develop in future and engaging employees into that plan.
- Engage with government and unions, and include the non-technical aspects to avoid the conflict and to build a better policy toward employee benefits.
Introduction
This report seeks to emphasis the importance of employment relations, examine the relationship between employees and their employers in the perspectives of ER and HRM, then to present the recommendations which focus on assisting HR managers to change their approach to the relationship with employees.
There are number of researches indicating that ER increasingly plays a central role in long-term development strategy of most of successful organizations. Business managers have come to recognize that the most important part of a business is their employees and the competitive advantage could be gained through effective management. There is belief that employees’ skills, knowledge and creativeness of are the major advantages that a business has over it competitors and thus the influence of employee is over other important features such as profitability.
