It is common to work functions for alcohol to be provided by the employer and offered as a beverage choice to employees. Employers are held accountable for the safety of their employees such as taverns for their guests in a bar, hotels are for their guests, and wedding guests for their attendees. Tragedies involving the intoxication and supply of alcoholic beverages at work have caused a need for liability insurance, both for the protection of an employer and for the employee.
A prime instance of liquor in the workplace is at the annual Christmas party. It’s an opportunity for employees to get to know one another, while also being considered a reward. When an employer provides alcohol, they are automatically held liable in the event that an accident happens while the employee is intoxicated. In cases where the employer is held liable, it is most commonly due to the employer not taking steps to protect the intoxicated party from harm.
