A. Acceptance Theory of Authority-Chester Barnard

1. defined as managers only have as much authority as

employees allow them to have

a. if the employee thinks that the task that the

manager is attempting to complete is ridiculous

then he/she might not accept the authority and

the task will not get completed

B. ERG Theory-Clayton P. Alderfer

1. defined as an employee having mulitple needs to

satisfy simultaneously and by focusing exclusively

on one need at a time you might not effectively

motivate the employee

a. if the all of the needs of an employee are not

focused on at the same time, then the employee

will not feel motivated enough to either complete

a task or continue working at his/her employment

C. Two Factor Theory-Frederick Herzberg

1. defined as people being influenced by two factors

hygiene and motivation.

a. the hygiene factor is needed to ensure that an

employee does not become dissatisfied with

working conditios, quality supervision, salary,

status, security, company, job, company policies

and administration, and interpersonal relations.

If the employee does become dissatisfied then

he/she is liable to quit or not be efficient or

effective

b. the motivation factor are needed to motivate the

employees into higher performances, including

achievement, recognition for achievement,

responsibility for task, interest in the job

itself, advancement to higher level task, and

growth. With hygiene and being highly motivated

then there will be fewer complaints.

D. Path-Goal Theory-Robert House

1. defined as the leader having affect on the

performance, satisfaction, and motivation of a group

by offering awards for achieving performance goals,

clarifying paths toward these goals, and removing

obstacles to performance

a. if the leader was not to offer awards for

achieving performance goals, clarifying paths

toward the goals, and removing obstacles to

performance, then there will be no affect on the

performance, satisfaction, and motivation of the

group and the result is failure

E. Theory of Planned Behavior- Icek Ajzen

1. is defined as behavior can be deliberated and planned

a. the behavior of people can change, if you offer

an award to the highest seller then more

employees will try to start selling more to

obtain the award

F. Theory of Constraints-Eliyahu
