Organizational Leadership Plan
When organizations are taking an initiative to improve their businesses, their greatest resource is leadership. Leadership is what pulls every aspect of the firm together. It is the brain of the organization. Leadership plans are designed to take the team where it wants to go in the company. The plan lists the organization’s development goals and determines the success of the enterprise. Companies like, Freedom Properties will develop a Leadership Plan to overcome the many ethical challenges their business faces.
•Discuss the different leadership theories or styles. How might you use a leadership style that suits you and your organization?
Four leadership styles will support the development of Freedom Properties’ Leadership Plan. The leadership styles needed are the path-goal theory, situational leadership theory, cognitive resource theory, and multiple linkage models. The path-goal theory of leadership will complement this plan because the leader keeps the employees motivated. "The motivational function of the head consists of increasing personal payoffs to subordinates for work-goal attainment and making the path to these payoffs easier to travel by clarifying it, reducing roadblocks and pitfalls, and growing the opportunities for personal satisfaction en route” (Yukl, 2010). The path-goal theory is beneficial for employees lacking motivation. Motivated employees work well and tend to be more productive, than not.
Situational leadership theory is a supportive type leadership that consults employees, along with praise and attention. This style is centered on adequate training and mentorship. Leaders and management are encouraged to make sure that all staff receives appropriate and efficient training to ensure all staff understands their job functions and company’s policies. Also, the situational leadership theory will give the employees the confidence to work effectively, be more productive, and use company time and property wisely.
With Freedom Properties role in the Preservation property industry. It is important that job candidates and current employees are highly skilled and qualified for the positions. Therefore, the cognitive resources theory is a good leadership approach for the organization. The theory focuses on employees past work experience and current knowledge. This method will work well with the team's plan to utilize orientations for new hires. Current employees that excel in their job functions will be promoted to lead positions, and their knowledge will be used to conduct the orientations.
Last, the multiple linkage theory is a leadership style that describes “the interacting effects of managerial behavior and situational variables on the intervening variables that determine the performance of a work unit” (Yukl, 2010). The multiple linkage theory will help Freedom Properties’ leaders and employees with organizing and stay committed to their company’s vision and objectives. The method is necessary to keep everyone focused on the task and influencing the employees through motivation and teaching them new skills.
•Examine different ethical challenges that might arise as part of leading your business.
Building leadership talent and retaining an efficient and skilled Office Manager are Freedom Properties' primary challenges. Whether it's from poor recruitment strategies or poor organizational fits for job candidates, Freedom Properties the overall talent shortages has hindered the company's leadership development (Gardner, J. 1990). As employees outgrow the business or become unhappy with the style of leadership, more employees leave Freedom Properties for better employment endeavors as the leaders try to rebuild after rebuilding previously. With money lost from training new hires that left after a few months, the company continues to lose money as new hires are sent to train—it's a revolving door.
Although of these challenges have bought Freedom Properties time to develop successfully a leadership plan to overcome their challenges. With their preferred styles of leadership, the company plans for their leaders to recognize leadership potential in the employees still employed and distinguish a good leader from a good manager (Gardner, J. 1990).
•Apply leadership theories and styles to create a plan for ethical leadership for your business.
For Freedom Properties to be successful, they must have leaders and managers. The CEO must be able to recruit an effective leader to motivate, influence, and help people reach a common goal; whereas, he'd hire a competent manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the company.
