This quotation represents the happy, positive outlook Anne has on her surroundings. Despite being an orphan she is extremely optimistic about the world and always views the dim reality as a fairy tale. In the beginning, Marilla Cuthbert and her brother, Matthew Cuthbert, want to adopt a boy from an asylum to help around the farm; but Anne Shirley comes instead. Anne is thrilled to have been finally adopted and beguiles Matthew into a conversation. She charms her way into Matthew’s heart with her optimistic ideas and spirit. Anne brings a fresh breathe of air to the once dull Green Gables. Her imagination and desire for beauty and good in the world makes her irresistible to even the coldest of hearts. Anne establishes a place for herself in Green Gables and in the Avonlea community.
I chose this quotation because it represents Anne’s own existence. Anne is an orphan that has been abandoned over and over again. To an orphan who has nothing, Anne’s imagination is everything to her. It is due to her imagination that she has been able to survive and view the world in such a beautiful way. Anne sees the world as an enchanting story, something from a fairy tale book; she takes refuge from the harsh realities of the world from within her imagination. This quote also represents Anne’s own curiosity and her want to discover everything in the world; she sees difficulties as a fun challenge and takes them head on. Anne prides herself in being able to see the hidden potential lurking in everything and is able to use her imagination to bring out the fullest of that potential. Her optimistic view on life and hardships is what charms people around her and her positive attitude is what makes her so unique. Anne’s curiosity towards life and her desire for everyone to be able to see the world as she does shows a beautiful, loving heart.
