John Proctor is the most admirable charter in the play the crucible by Arthur Miller. In the Play John proctor a down to earth farmer has a sexual relationship with Abigail Williams while she works on his farm. Also his wife Elizabeth claims she’s pregnant. Elizabeth tells proctor that she believes Abigail will accuse her of witchcraft and have her executed because she wants to become proctors wife. Elizabeth asks proctor to speak to Abigail and tell her that no chance exists of him marrying her if anything happens to his wife.
Proctor and his wife Elizabeth scared that their own household helper Mary Warren, is caught up in the frenzy of accusations Elizabeth is afraid. They know that Abigail is behind these accusations and Elizabeth tells Proctor to go to town and reveal Abigail's lying . Elizabeth makes an allusion to the affair Proctor had with Abigail and catches him in a lie he told her he was not alone with Abigail at the Parris home but in fact he was. Proctor irritable and worried complains that Elizabeth still doesn't trust him and never will even though he has been a good husband for the last seven months since Abigail left.
