Should Children Be Allowed to Play Violent Video Games?
You only get a few years to be a kid and not have any worries or responsibilities. Children should be outside playing with their friends, socializing with their families, even jumping around. Instead, children in this generation are cooped up in the houses playing violent video games. Some argue that videogames are bad for children and they shouldn't have access, while others believe violent video games are actually good for children. Violent video games are bad for the brain, and they cause aggression in children. These games are malicious, they are turning children into monsters, and are teaching kids the wrong things.
One of the main reasons the youth community shouldn't be allowed play violent video games is, because they are bad for the brain. On December 2nd 2011, Alice Park wrote an article on HealthLand Time called “ How Playing Violent Video Games May Change the Brain. “ She talks a Indiana University study conducted by Dr. Vincent Matthews and his colleagues who have studied media violence (Park). The study looked at what would happen in the brain of 28 students, who were to play violent or nonviolent video game for a whole week (Park). At the start of the study, functional MRI scans were used to inspect brain activity in the students, and they completed lab-based tasks which involved either emotional or nonemotional content (Park). At the end of the study, researchers found that the students who played the violent video games showed little activity in the areas of attention and emotions (Park). These games are causing children to lack an attention and emotion span. Video games are turning children into mini robots rather than human beings, there is no reason why the youth community should have access to these games.
Another reason why children should not have access to video games is, because it has a bad influence on them and this may cause aggression. Children who play violent video games are more likely to have increased aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and decreased
