Uses
Silver oxide is often used in carbon dioxide scrubbers due to their effectiveness in removing carbon dioxide from humidified air. Used in nuclear submarines, the international space station, and space shuttles. Silver oxide reacts with carbon dioxide with the presence of water to produce silver carbonate.
Silver oxide is also often used in the manufacture of silver oxide batteries. In this battery silver oxide acts as the cathode, positive electrode, and zinc acts as the anode, negative electrode. A silver oxide battery can handle high current loads due to its high durability and inflammability. Therefore these batteries are used in electronic devices such as digital watches, hearing aids, and cameras. Silver oxide batteries are also used in the U.S military and the Apollo space program. Their use can be found in Mark #7 torpedoes as well as on Alfa class submarines.
