Sugar: Is Sugar “Bad” for You?
There is controversy about sugar and its heath issues.
· Eating a lot of sugar means you will have to cut down on other forms of food.
· Sugar causes malnutrition because it reduces the nutrition that one would receive from other foods.
· Also if you consume sugar along with other food you eat regularly you will be taking in too many calories, thus bringing in the problem of obesity.
· Once the body has enough sugar to fill its glycogen storage it will be converted to fat and high levels of fat in the blood will begin to occur.
· Concentrated sugar is a new additive in humans and we have evolved without it
· If too much sugar is put into the body the pancreas will be overworked to produce insulin, ultimately wearing out
Eating a lot of sugar compared to potatoes is a huge loss to a persons diet. You might get the same amount of sugar but you will be losing the vitamins, minerals and fibers from the potatoes.
Obesity is a huge problem and can occur when excess calories enter the body. There are studies that prove that when sugar intake increases so does obesity. Sugar can't always be blamed because lack of physical exercise and a nutritional diet can always affect at persons body weight.
Concentrated sugar is a relatively new additive and was not around when our ancestors were alive. We are not biologically able to cope with the amount of sugar that people are consuming daily. It is estimated that our ancestors consumed about 20 pounds of sugar a year and it is now estimated that in 1970 people consumed about 100 pounds of sugar. Sugar has a positive when it comes to carbohydrates. When children or elderly people need crabs and they don’t have the appetite, sugar is a great alternative. Sugar is not a poison as some people like to put it.
Sugar is said to be connected to diabetes, yet there is no direct connection that it solely is the factor. In many countries they have found that the increase in sugar along with fat dramatically increase the probability of getting diabetes. So it is tempting to say sugar is the problem, but as many people know it is the excess consumption
