Task: In this Independent reading task I will explain the books plot in detail, I will tell you about some of the important characters, I will tell you my first impressions of Harry and his friends and lastly I will rate the book.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a gripping and exhilarating novel full of suspense, secrets and magic written by the famous female English writer J.K Rowling. This book is about Harry’s fifth year at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The fifth instalment in the Harry Potter series is the darkest one of them all due to the return of the evil and the ever increasingly powerful Lord Voldemort.
My first impression of Harry Potters’ character was that he was powerful and brave and will no be insulted by other people. In the start of the Order of the Phoenix Harry is walking along the road with his cousin Dudley. Dudley is paying him out but Harry has some very good comebacks. Later Dudley gets attacked by a couple of Dementors and Harry saves him by using the Petronus charm (only thing that can scare Dementors). The first impression of Hermione and Ron are different to what they are normally. Normally Hermione is a bit bossy and Ron is always a good friend with Harry. The first impression of Hermione was that she was very touchy and started to cry easily. Ron was pretty quite when Harry was yelling at them.
There are countless characters in the complicated Harry Potter series but I will only mention a few important ones. The most important one of them all is the fifteen-year old boy Harry Potter. Harry is a young adolescent with pale skin, untidy jet-black hair and a noticeable lightning shaped scar across his forehead, which he got after Lord Voldemort tried to kill him. At a very young age Harry Potter was forced to live with his muggle (non-magical folk) Aunt and Uncle at Privet Drive after Lord Voldemort murdered his parents. Harry became famous because he is the only person to have ever survived Lord Voldemorts wrath. He is known as the boy who lived. Since Harry started school at Hogwarts he has had numerous dangerous adventures, which include meeting Lord Voldemort in person and retrieving the Philosophers stone, which creates the elixir of life and can turn anything into gold. In the second book Harry had to fight an enormous basilisk (big snake) and save the school from being shut down. In the third book Harry fights hundreds of Dementors (Guards of Azkaban Prison who are hated and feared because of their ability to suck out ones soul) and meets his God Father Sirius who is still considered to be a mass murderer. In the fourth book Harry Potter competes in the Triwizard tournament and duels Lord Voldemort (read Harry Potter series to find out more).
Lord Voldemort was once a former Hogwarts student known as Tom Riddle. After his schooling years he stepped over to the dark side and became an evil wizard who is greatly feared by wizarding folk. His dark reputation is such that his name is hardly ever spoken out loud. After he killed Lilly and James Potter and tried to kill young Harry he disappeared. The night he was at the Potters he put the Avada Kedavra curse (a killing curse) on Harry but the curse rebounded and hit its master. Voldemort was still alive but did not have enough energy to do anything. He then disappeared for a few years. Later he came back in the form of others to try and replenish himself and to kill Harry. Most of attempts did not succeed due to Harry Potter always saving the day. The only time he regenerated was at the end of the fourth book and the fifth book.
Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are Harry’s best friends. They first met in the first year when they were on the Hogwarts express train. After that meeting they became the best of friends. Ron Weasley is one of the many Weasley’s, which include Arthur and Molly (parents of Ron), Charlie, Bill and Percy (older brothers who have finished their schooling years and are working), Fred and George (older mischievous brothers who are still at Hogwarts) and Ron’s younger sister Ginny. Ron Weasley is about the same age as Harry and is tall, thin and gangling, with freckles, big hands and feet and a long nose. Harry and Ron get along like a house on fire. Ron is sometimes embarrassed when it comes to his family because they are quite poor and cannot afford certain things that other families can. He can be jealous at times when Harry gets all the attention and nobody takes notice of him. He has a certain liking for Hermione but is too shy to say anything. Hermoine Granger is a smart know-it-all. She has bushy brown hair, large front teeth and a loud, rather bossy voice. Her parents are muggle
