South Carolina starts a new season with a new head football coach. Steve Spurrier is his name. His lifetime record is 142-40-2, which is a winning percentage of .777. He is Carolina’s 32nd head coach. He is looking forward to changing the Gamecocks around to a better team. He has nine returning starters on offense and eight returning starters on defense. Coach Spurrier says, “They have three keys to victory, they are; no freebies, keep Blake Mitchell off his back, and stop the run on defense.”
Spurrier loves to pass the ball and spread the defense out to set up the good running game. Carolina’s new offensive scheme is called, “Cock and Fire”. The gamecocks play in the South Eastern Conference, which is by far, one of the toughest conferences in college football. They also have a very tough schedule playing seven top twenty-five teams during the season. So far this year, Carolina is 1-2, losing to both Georgia and Alabama. Gamecocks won their season opener against University of Central Florida.
