Essay title: What Is Health and How Can Somebody Be Healthy
What is health and how can somebody be healthy. The World Health organisation defined health as: A state of complete physical, social and mental well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Within the context of health promotion, health has been considered less as an abstract state and more as a means to an end, which can be expressed, in functional terms as a resource, which permits people to lead an individually, socially and economically productive life. Health is a resource for everyday life, not the object of living. It is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources as well as physical capabilities. (1)
Differences in income, education, and occupation alone do not explain all of the inequalities in health status, as health is multidimensional. What other determinants can account for the fact that everyone’s health is different? There is not one answer to this question, but there are several possible explanations. For instance, a person’s economic status. Because of socio-economic disparities, there are differences in the availability of health care in rural Australian compared to urban Australia and, therefore, exposure to illness, disease, and injury are of greater risk. Other influences that may affect a persons health may be due to cultural reasons. Factors such as social stress, diet, and physical activity, and genetic differences also may be related to racial differences in health.
